Auburn, NY – Eighth-seeded Oberlin College continued their Cinderella run through the NCAA New York Baseball Regional playoffs with a come-from-behind, 5-4 victory over third-seeded Keystone College on Saturday morning.  The Yeoman scored four unanswered runs on Saturday after the elimination game was suspended on Friday night with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning with the Giants holding a 4-1 lead.

Oberlin (21-27), the North Coast Athletic Conference champions, advances to play Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. for the right to compete in the NCAA Regional championship round against Cortland State while Keystone ended another outstanding season with a 33-14 record.

Keystone jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on Friday night.  Julian Lanfranco (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) led off the game with a walk, stole second, and scored easily on a Gaston Rojas (Carmel, NY/Carmel) double to the left field wall before Anthony Muccio (Tarrytown, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) drove in Rojas with a double to left-center to give the Giants the two-run advantage.

Oberlin got a run back in the bottom of the first as Jeff Schweighoffer scored on a Kyle Decker base hit to center, but Keystone answered back in the home third on an RBI double by Kevin Luciano (Everett, MA/Cambridge Rindge and Latin School) that plated Alex Herceg (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) from first to give the Giants a 3-1 lead.

Keystone extended their lead to 4-1 with a two-out run in the top of the fifth inning as Rojas scored from second on single to left off the bat of Herceg.

Giants' starting pitcher Darren Lauer (New Hope, PA/Council Rock North) was in control on the mound, allowing just one unearned run on four hits while striking out three batters through 5.1 innings when the rains became heavier forcing play to be halted just before 10:00 p.m.

When play finally resumed 12 hours later on Saturday morning, Oberlin took advantage of the break by scoring two runs on three hits and one Keystone error to cut their deficit to 4-3 at the end of six innings of play.  Benjamin Whitener, who started on the mound on Friday for the Yeomen, singled to right field to drive in Decker before Danny Baldocchi singled through the left side to plate Andrew Hutson to cut the Yeomen's deficit to one-run.

Oberlin put a pair of runners on with one out in the home seventh, but Herceg threw a runner out attempting to steal third before Rob DePhillips (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) got a fielder's choice out to Lanfranco to work out of the jam.  The following half inning, the Yeomen got out of trouble as Keystone had runners on the corners with one out before Oberlin got an inning-ending double play.

Joe Angelucci (Commack, NY/Commack) made a pair of great diving catches in right field in the bottom of the eighth inning to help preserve Keystone's lead, but Ryan Bliss hit an RBI triple to the centerfield fence to bring in pinch runner Sam Harris with the tying run.  Mitch Novak then singled to center to bring in Bliss with the go-ahead run as the Yeomen took a 5-4 lead.

Lanfranco led off the top of the ninth inning with a single to left field and moved into scoring position on a groundout by Rojas, but the Giants were unable to push across the tying run as Milo Sklar got a lineout followed by a groundout to close out the victory.

Whitener yielded four runs on six hits and striking out two batters in five innings of work on Friday night.  Milo Sklar (4-5) pitched a scoreless sixth inning for the Yeomen before play was halted on Friday and returned to the hill on Saturday morning by allowing just two hits and three walks while fanning a pair of batters in four scoreless innings.

Decker and Novak led Oberlin with a pair of hits each as the Yeomen held a slim, 9-8 edge in hits for the contest.

Lauer took a no-decision after having his fine start halted by Mother Nature.  Jake Granteed (West Pittston, PA/Wyoming Area) was charged with two runs on three hits in relief while DePhillips struck out one batter in 1.2 scoreless innings.  Steve Aniska (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) (0-1) was charged with the loss after allowing two runs on two hits and one walk in the eighth inning.

Rojas and Herceg paced the Giants offensively while Chris Bzozowski (Westampton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) was hit by three pitches in the contest.

The loss to Oberlin marked the final contest in a Keystone uniform for the Giants' 10 seniors: Anthony Muccio (Tarrytown, NY/Archbishop Stepinac), Gaston Rojas (Carmel, NY/Carmel), Darren Lauer (New Hope, PA/Council Rock North), Dylan Corl (Morrisdale, PA/West Branch ), Joe Angelucci (Commack, NY/Commack), Kevin Luciano (Everett, MA/Cambridge Rindge and Latin School), Austin Barefoot (Alexandria, PA/Tyrone Area), James Dunning (Scranton, PA/West Scranton), Chris Bzozowski (Westampton, NJ/Bishop Eustace), and Steve Aniska (Scranton, PA/West Scranton).
