TYLER, Texas—The No. 8 Birmingham-Southern baseball team rebounded from yesterday's loss and handed  Centenary College its first loss today, 4-1, in the Clements Fluids Classic, hosted by UT Tyler in Tyler, Texas.

The Panthers moved to 2-1, while the Gents fell to 6-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• BSC scored two runs in the top of the third on RBI singles from freshman A.J. Huntand junior Jack Rhodes.
• The Panthers added two more in the top of the eighth when senior Taylor McCrackenscored and then senior Matt Brown hit a sac-fly to bring Rhodes across the plate.
• With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Centenary scored its first run of the game; with the bases loaded, freshman Vincent Torres struck out the final batter to preserve the victory and pick up his first save.

NOTABLE

• Hunt went 3-4 at the plate and McCracken was 3-5; Rhodes was 2-5.
• Senior Kyle Royalty started and picked up the win, going 5.0 innings with no hits or runs and only one walk as well as eight strikeouts.
• Freshmen Jake Cook and John Michael Shirley also saw action on the mound before Torres came in for the final out.

UP NEXT

• BSC opens its home slate next weekend, facing Greenville on Friday, Feb. 19, at 3 p.m.
• The Panthers will take on Greenville again on Saturday at 3 p.m., and then will face Transylvania at 5:45 p.m. on Saturday and noon on Sunday.
