FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College baseball team split a doubleheader with visiting Penn St. Harrisburg. The Nittany Lions captured game one, 3-1, before the Blazers won game two, 5-4.

GAME ONE

Penn St. Harrisburg's Bobby Patterson out-dueled Hood's Ryan Atkinson (Hamburg, Pa. / Hamburg) on the mound to defeat the Blazers, 3-1.

Patterson allowed just a single unearned run in 4.2 innings on six hits and two walks. Atkinson gave up three runs, two earned, on five hits and three walks in five innings.

Cam Esposito (Columbia, N.J. / North Warren Regional) was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the first and later scored on an error, but the Nittany Lions tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the second. In the third, an RBI single by Ian Maier-Breed and a bases loaded hit by pitch gave Penn St. Harrisburg the lead.

A single by Josh Gall (Odenton, Md. / Arundel) followed by a two-out Dylan Johnson (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) double put runners on second and third in the fifth. The Nittany Lions turned to reliever Michael Balshy, who retired the side to get out of the jam.

Tyler Cook (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove) had two hits for the Blazers. Chris Devine (Frederick, Md. / Urbana) and Connor Henniges (Mount Airy, Md. / Linganore) pitched scoreless innings of relief.

Breed-Maier notched two hits for Penn St. Harrisburg. Balshy recorded the save with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.

GAME TWO

Andrew Catone (Jacksonville, Fla. / Stanton College Prep) needed just 57 pitches to navigate six-plus innings and Brooks Warrenfeltz (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) drove in three runs in a 5-4 win.

Catone scattered seven hits, did not walk a batter and struck out three to pick up his first win of the year. The sophomore was extremely efficient, throwing 45 of his 57 pitches for strikes.

Esposito reached base in all four of his plate appearances with three walks and a single.

Runs in the first and third gave Penn St. Harrisburg a 2-0 lead.

Hood struck back with a three-run fourth. Chris Shriver (Frederick, Md. / Gov. Thomas Johnson) led off with a single and Quinn Fulton (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) walked. With two outs, an error on a batted ball by Cook extended the inning and loaded the bases. Esposito walked to drive in a run. Warrenfeltz then singled up the middle to score Fulton and Cook for a 3-2 lead.

Paul Quattrone (Laurel, Md. / Reservoir) had an RBI single in the fifth, and Warrenfeltz drew a bases loaded walk to make it 5-2.

Catone ran into trouble in the seventh. Ethan Kell doubled to start the inning and scored two batters later on a base hit by pinch hitter Chris Iocca. The Blazers brought in reliever Michael Hernandez (Lancaster, Pa. / Hempfield) who allowed an RBI ground out before retiring the side for the save.

Brubaker had two hits for Penn St. Harrisburg. Travis Van Houten allowed the first three Hood runs over 3.2 innings to take the loss.
