Winter Haven, Fla. - Freshman Jordan Clark (Connersville, Ind./Connersville) tossed seven quality innings and delivered a run-scoring single as the Franklin College baseball team recorded its first victory of the 2016 season with a 5-1 victory over Milwaukee School of Engineering on Tuesday.

The Grizzlies (1-3) concluded their season-opening Florida trip with two games decided by one run and another two-run contest.

Clark put Franklin ahead in the first inning with a single to score freshman Tanner Nicholson (Greencastle, Ind./Greencastle). The team took a 2-0 advantage in the third inning on a double by sophomore Mitch Schuman (St. Leon, Ind./East Central). The extra-base hit scored freshman Mitchell Moore (Seymour, Ind./Seymour).

Franklin scored two runs in the seventh inning to push the margin to 5-0. A wild pitch allowed Moore to cross home plate for the second time in the contest. Schuman followed with another run-scoring double to plate senior Drew Kammerer (Fortville, Ind./McCordsville).

MSOE opened the eighth inning with two singles, an error, and a walk to cut the deficit to 5-1. With runners on the corners and one out, junior reliever Jacob McMain (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo) entered the contest and retired the next batters to keep the potential game-tying run stranded on deck.

McMain earned his first save of the season by tossing a scoreless ninth inning.

Schuman, Nicholson, and Moore each tallied two hits to lead the offensive attack. Clark added one hit and one run batted in to go along with six strikeouts in seven innings to pick up the victory on the mound.

Franklin is scheduled to open the home schedule with a three-game series against Albion College, starting on Friday, March 4, at 3:30 p.m. from John P. McDowell Field.
