FLEMINGTON, N.J. (March 1, 2016) - Sophomore catcherJustin Marks hit a first-inning grand slam and freshman hurler Anthony Rosoline tossed six excellent innings as the Rutgers University-Newark baseball team rolled to an 11-1 win over Penn State University-Abington Tuesday afternoon.

Rutgers-Newark improves to 2-2 with the win, while PSU-Abington drops to 0-3.

Rosoline went six innings, striking out three and walking two. He allowed five hits and just one earned run, improving to 2-0 on the young 2016 campaign. Sophomore lefty Anthony Percontepicked up the save, throwing the final three frames in relief for the Scarlet Raiders, striking out three and allowing no runs.

Rutgers-Newark pounded out 11 hits in the game and was led by Marks who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. The grand slam was the first homer of his career and was into a steady wind blowing in directly from right field. Senior shortstop Gerry Patrizio finished 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI, and sophomore right fielder Danny Iannaccone was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored and three RBI. Sophomore third baseman Brian Boulineau was 2-for-4, and rookie second baseman Ryan Zucker went 1-for-1 with a run and an RBI, adding a pair of walks.

After Rosoline sent down the side in order in the top of the first, the Scarlet Raiders wasted little time in jumping on top for good. A one-out double from Patrizio, a walk to senior first basemanCameron Dias and a single from freshman DH Ross Halkias loaded the bags for Marks who blasted his homer well over the right field wall on the first pitch he saw.

The guests plated their only run in the top half of the third inning, and the Scarlet Raiders added three in the bottom half. Patrizio started things with a walk before stealing second and advancing to third on the throw. Following two walks and two strikeouts, the bases were loaded with two down for Iannaccone who delivered in a big way, rocketing a three-run double into the left-center field gap to give his team a 7-1 lead.

Rutgers-Newark plated two more in the fourth inning, getting a run-scoring single from Patrizio, and an unearned tally after a Marks infield single.

Single runs came across for the Scarlet Raiders in the fifth and seventh to round out the scoring as senior center fielder Billy Taylor delivered a run-scoring groundout in the fifth, and following an Iannaccone double, Zucker came through with an RBI single to center field in the seventh.

The Scarlet Raiders' final line was 11 runs, 11 hits and no errors, and the offense was able to work nine walks while striking out just four times.

Rosoline has now totaled 13 innings in his two starts this year, scattering 10 hits and giving up three earned runs, and Perconte has yet to allow a run in four innings of work over two appearances.

Rutgers-Newark was originally slated to return to the diamond in Hoboken, N.J. at Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday, but that game has been changed to Monday, March 7. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
