NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Powered by a six-run seventh inning, the Captains registered their sixth come-from-behind victory in nine wins already this season, taking down Bridgewater College (6-3) by a final score of 10-8.  Facing a four-run deficit, the 24th-ranked CNU offense was sparked by a game-tying three-run triple from pinch hitter Josh Moore, and the bullpen took over from there.

Christopher Newport improves to 9-1 this season as reliever Caleb Myers (3-0) picked up the win in relief. Senior Adam Emerson earned his third save in as many chances this season with a lockdown 1-2-3 ninth inning.

CNU took a 3-2 lead after three innings, but Bridgewater had back-to-back 3-run frames in the 5th and 6th to take command, 8-4. Myers stepped in to slow the Eagles offense and was efficient for two innings out of the pen. He kept the ball on the infield in the 7th inning, inducing a pair of popups and a groundball right back to the mound. After the Captains got out in front, Myers returned for the eighth and on just 11 pitches, retired the side with another groundball and two fly outs.

Into the ninth inning, Emerson looked on top of his game against the meat of the Bridgewater offense. He first got the Eagles' leading hitter, Kenner Berry, to swing through a pitch for a strikeout, and then he retired Justin Petock on three straight pitches with a check swing for the third strike. Brendan Howell worked a full count against the Captains' closer, but Emerson enduced a hard chopper to shortstop for the game-ending out.

The game shifted in the bottom of the seventh as CNU's offense took control. Facing a reliever, Tommy Vitaletti started the inning with his third hit of the day, singling to right field. Brandon Ginch walked and Keith Roberts was hit by a pitch, loading the bases with nobody out. After Bridgewater called on freshman Jeff Early to get out of the jam, he earned one strikeout, but then gave up the pinch hit game-tying triple by Moore. The go-ahead run would come in on a wild pitch one batter later, and CNU tacked on one more when Austin Henry scored on a wild pitch later in the inning.

Vitaletti had his sixth multi-hit game of the season, going 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI. Ginch and senior Kyle Corwin also added two-hit performances for the Captains, while Moore's 3-RBI hit led CNU in runs batted in.

The Captains are back in action this Saturday, March 5, as they host Neumann University (2-3) at 2:00 pm. Live stats will be available at CNUsports.com/live
