Fisher and Marietta Split Doubleheader - Both Games End In Walk Offs

After scoring five runs in the eighth and ninth inning, only to lose 6-5 in the bottom of the 10th, the St. John Fisher College baseball program returned the favor with a 3-2 walk-off win in the bottom of the ninth to earn a doubleheader-split with 19th-ranked Marietta College on Sunday at the RussMatt Central Florida Tournament in Winter Haven.

With the win, Fisher finishes its Florida trip with a 6-4 overall record.   The Cardinals will return to action next Sunday at Washington & Jefferson College.
 
Game One – Marietta 6, Fisher 5 (10 innings)
 
The Cardinals trailed 4-0 going into the top of the eighth, but rallied to score four and tie the game up.    Ryan Prevost and Evan Ryan both reached base to start the inning and Cody Wiktorski got Fisher on the board with an RBI-single.   After Jack Trotman pushed both runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt, Mike Roman delivered a two-run double.   With two outs, Nate Roethel came through with an RBI-single to score Roman.

Fisher took a 5-4 lead in the top of the ninth as Wiktorski ripped a two-out double to score catcher Jack Vivinetto, who reached on a lead-off walk.

The Pioneers, however, would tie the game up at 5-5 in the bottom of the ninth and scored in the bottom of the 10th to pick up the win.

Wiktorski, Roman and Roethel each finished with two hits.   Stephen Lewis pitched five innings, allowing two earned runs with five strikeouts.  Freshman Jim Dawson didn't allow an earned run over 3.1 innings of action.
 
 
Game Two – Fisher 3, Marietta 2

With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Vic Konstantinovsky singled and went to third on a single from Ryan Prevost.   Evan Ryan then delivered a game-winning single to score Konstantinovsky and end the game.

It was Ryan's second RBI of the game as the second baseman hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh, tying the game at 2-2.   Prevost scored the run after collecting a one-out triple.

Tom Kline scored Fisher's first run of the game, scoring on an RBI-double from Wiktorski in the fifth inning.

Sophomore pitcher Loukas Brigham earned the win in relief, scattering two hits over three scoreless innings.  Starting pitcher Terry Engels was solid through six, giving up two runs on three hits, while striking out a career-high nine batters.
