DelVal Bats Come Alive In Doubleheader Sweep Of Marywood

FORT PIERCE (FL) – The Delaware Valley University baseball team recorded 27 hits en route to 13-4 and 10-5 victories over Marywood University on Thursday.

The Aggies improved to 6-1 on the year while the Pacers dropped to 1-5.

In the opener, DelVal scored twice in the first then opened up the lead with a seven-run third inning. The third included a two-run homer by junior center fielder Kyle Wenger, his first of the season, and RBI singles by senior catcher Corey White, sophomore first baseman Jeremy Stewart, sophomore third baseman Nick Liantonio, junior left fielder Mike Anusky and sophomore shortstop Kevin Crill. The Aggies tallied two runs each in the fourth and sixth innings. Marywood produced one run in the third and three in the sixth.

Senior righty Jake Richard pitched all seven innings, allowing four runs, three earned, and nine hits while fanning eight for the win (2-0). Daniel Hull took the loss (0-1).

DelVal struck for six runs in the opening frame in game two. The Aggies added two runs in both the second and third innings. The two markers in the third came from a triple by Wenger. The Pacers had one run in the second, two in the fourth and two in the sixth.

Sophomore right-hander Jeremy Hefele was the winning pitcher (2-0). He hurled six innings and surrendered five runs, two earned, and nine hits. Hefele struck out three batters. Casey Reed was tagged with the loss (0-1).

On the day, junior second baseman Ben Lippincott went four-for-six with a double, a triple, one RBI and five runs scored. Wenger had five hits (eight at-bats), one triple, one home run, five RBI and four runs scored. Senior designated hitter Matt Dewald was four-for-eight, drove in four runs and scored twice. Sophomore right fielder/catcher Sammy Amos crossed the plate four times.

For Marywood, second baseman Vince Rebar was five-for-eight with two doubles, three RBI and one run scored. Third baseman James Goetz had four hits (seven at-bats), a double, one RBI and one run scored. First baseman Michael Schlichtig was three-for-four and scored once.

DelVal finishes its spring break trip to Florida with a doubleheader against Drew University on Friday, March 11 (9:30 a.m.).
