Winter Haven, FL --- The WPI baseball team took two from Wentworth in the form of a 17-1 win and 4-2 triumph on the final day of the squad's trip to Florida. The victories were also number 199 and 200 for head coach Mike Callahan.

The Engineers head north after a 6-4 week while Wentworth returns to New England with a 3-8 ledger.

The Leopards struck first in the milestone game only to have senior Alex Venditti (Newton, MA) respond with an RBI single to center for the 1-1 stalemate after one. Venditti added a two-run shot in the third. Freshman Steven Gallagher (Coventry, RI) lifted a sacrifice fly to right to chase classmate Dominic Fusco (North Haven, CT) home for the 4-1 lead heading into the seventh. Wentworth dented the scoreboard in the seventh to make it a 4-2 final.

Junior Aiden Freeburg (Billerica, MA) improved to 2-0 as he allowed two runs – one earned – on six hits while striking out seven and walking one. Senior Vinny D'Ambrosio (Mahopac, NY) and junior Nick Comei (Haverhill, MA) joined Venditti in the multi hit club. Freshman Benjamin Chaffee (Franklin, MA) laid down a sacrifice bunt for the Engineers.

WPI scored three in the third to begin its scoring in the eye-opener as Comei and senior John Mulready (Rockland, MA) combined for three RBI. The Engineers tacked on two more in the fifth thanks to a D'Ambrosio RBI double down the right field line and a Mulready RBI fielder's choice. Wentworth broke up the shutout with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the frame.

The Engineers exploded for eight in the sixth, including a grand slam by Venditti. Freshman Ryan Tropeano (Pembroke, MA) checked in with a 3-run jack in the top of the seventh followed by a Fusco knock to right center.

D'Ambrosio (double), Mulready (double), senior John Caliri (Hanson, MA) (SB) and sophomore Evan Lacroix (Methuen, MA) all registered a pair of hits in the game. Steven D'Agostino yielded one run on five hits while striking out seven and walking one. Freshman Tom McCarthy (Jefferson, MD) fanned one in the seventh.

In a scheduling oddity, WPI hosts Mass. Maritime Wednesday and Wentworth travels to Mass. Maritime Thursday. Both games are slated for a 3:30pm first pitch.
