Union, N.J. (3/15/16) – The Kean University baseball team stunned #8/10 Salisbury University with an eight run seventh inning to defeat the Sea Gulls by the final of 11-3 Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.

Southpaw Richie Ferguson earned the win with the complete game effort.  Ferguson (1-2) allowed three runs and eight hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.

In the deciding seventh frame, the Cougars (8-6) trailed entering the inning, 3-1.  A leadoff walk from Ryan Reitmeyer and a pinch-hit single from Andrew DiFrancesco started things off and a successful bunt from Brian Cole put both runners in scoring position.  Graduate student Matt Meleo made it 3-2 with a single to left and senior Chris Amato tied things up with a bunt single.  After pitching around Sal Taormina to load the bases, sophomore Matt Krupa recorded the go-ahead RBI on a hit-by-pitch.  The Sea Gulls (8-4) extended the inning with a fielding miscue that allowed one to score and Reitmeyer took advantage with his second at-bat of the inning with a bases clearing double.

Kean added two more in the eighth for insurance with a sac fly from Taormina and another bases-loaded hit-by-pitch, this time to Reitmeyer.

Salisbury had taken an early 2-0 lead in the first with sac fly from senior Jake Dmiterchik and an RBI single from Tom LaBriola.  The Cougars cut the lead in half in the same inning with an RBI groundout from Taormina.

Reitmeyer was 1-for-3 with four RBI and a walk on the day while Amato was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Jeff Oster suffered the loss after tossing six and a third innings allowing four runs and seven hits.

Kean hits the road for their first true away contest of the season when they travel to Farmingdale State College on Wednesday.
