HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 7, 2016) - The Rutgers University-Newark baseball team suffered a 4-1 loss at Stevens Institute of Technology Monday afternoon at Dobbelaar Baseball Field.

With the loss, the Scarlet Raiders drop to 2-3 on the season, seeing a two-game win streak snapped. Stevens improves to 4-4 overall with the victory.

The Ducks were able to score two runs in the first, one run in the fourth and one more in the fifth to open a 4-0 lead, and the Scarlet Raiders were only able push across one run in the seventh despite several solid chances.

Senior starter Robert Robbins earned the win (1-0) on the mound for the hosts, going five innings and allowing two hits and four walks. He struck out seven.

Sophomore Mike Zibrin surrendered three runs (two earned) in four innings of work for the Scarlet Raiders, allowing eight hits and walking four. Sophomore Dominick Fazio came on in relief and pitched very well, allowing just one run and striking out two in four innings. He gave up just three hits and induced seven ground balls.

Senior right fielder Billy Taylor was on base four times, drawing three walks, going 1-for-1 and swiping a base, and senior first baseman Cameron Dias went 2-for-4 with a walk and run scored. Junior left fielder Josh Cote drove in the Scarlet Raider run, sophomore third baseman Brian Boulineau went 1-for-3, and freshman second baseman Ryan Zucker pocketing a pair of walks. Sophomore catcherJustin Marks picked up the other Newark base hit.

As a team, the Scarlet Raiders worked nine walks and had five hits, while Stevens compiled 11 knocks and five free passes.

Rutgers-Newark loaded the bases in the first and second and had two runners on in the third but could not find the big hit it needed to push anything across. The Raiders again loaded the sacks in the bottom half of the sixth, but an interference call slowed the brewing momentum, ended the threat and kept R-N off the scoreboard.

In the seventh, Dias singled with one out to set the table, and he went first-to-third on Marks' single. Cote would bring home Dias on a groundout, trimming the Duck lead to three.

Back-to-back walks with one out in the top of the eighth brought the tying run to the plate, but Rutgers was unable to get the key hit it needed, eventually falling by the 4-1 final.

Fazio sent down Stevens in order twice, and after giving up a home run to the first batter he faced, was marvelous throughout the rest of his outing.

Rutgers-Newark will hit the practice field for the rest of the week before heading west to California for its annual Spring Break Trip. The Scarlet Raiders will open the trip at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (CMS) for a three-game series starting Friday at 2:30 p.m. (Pacific).

Three Base Hits:
- Since allowing 18 runs in the first two games of the season, the Scarlet Raiders have allowed just 10 in their next three games (3.33 per game).
- Over their last seven innings, the Rutgers-Newark bullpen has allowed just one run. That spans two games.
Ryan Zucker and Billy Taylor have combined to draw 14 walks so far this season and both have an OBP of .462 or better.

ICYMI:
- Freshman hurler Anthony Rosoline was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Rookie Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season after picking up his second win of the season last week against Penn State University-Abington. It was announced Monday.
