Errors Costly as King’s Baseball Falls to DeSales 11-2

KING'S BASEBALL DROPS FIRST OF THREE-GAME SET VS DESALES

WILKES-BARRE, PA --- The King's College baseball team had a rough day in the field as visiting DeSales University won the opening game of a three-game set 11-2 on Thursday afternoon at Lipo Field in Wilkes-Barre. The Monarchs committed seven errors that led to eight runs for the Bulldogs.

DeSales improved to 6-7 overall and 2-2 in conference play with the win. King's falls to 10-6 overall and 1-3 in the MAC Freedom.

The Bulldogs scored first in the second inning when the Monarchs committed two of their errors. In the bottom of the inning King's was able to score twice to take a 2-1 lead. Brad Wilkins walked and then Shawn Stone hit a blooper down the right field line for a single. After Nick Trivigino walked to load the bases Tom Gibbons singled through the left side to score one run and then Bruce Breithaupt was hit by a pitch to score the second run.

The Monarchs held the lead until the fourth inning when the Bulldogs took advantage of three errors by King's to score five runs and take a 6-2 lead. DeSales added two runs in the fifth, two in the seventh, and one in the ninth to set the final score.

Brad Wilkins has two hits and scored one run for the Monarchs. Tom Gibbons had one hit and an RBI while Bruce Breithaupt had a RBI. Kyle Lupas extended his streak of getting on-base to 16 games with a hit.

Nick Deno got the loss on the mound pitching 4.1 innings. He allowed eight runs, only two of which were earned, and three hits with three strikeouts and six walks. Chris Lupole pitched 1.1 innings in relief and allowed just two hits and walked two. Andrew Fisher pitched the last 3.1 innings and gave up three runs, only one earned, three hits, and struck out two.

Steven Wallace got the win on the mound for the Bulldogs pitching five innings and allowing two runs on five hits. He walked six and struck out five. Tyler Cooperman got a four inning save allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out five.

King's will continue their three-game series with DeSales on Monday with a doubleheader in Center Valley beginning at 1:00 p.m.
