BEXLEY – The Heidelberg University baseball team battled to a split on the road against Capital on Friday. The offense for the Student Princes stalled in a 6-0 game one loss before they woke up in game two to win 8-3 to salvage the split.

Heidelberg moves to 7-10 (1-1 OAC) while Capital's record stands at 10-6 (1-1 OAC).

Game one was not kind to the Heidelberg offense, as they managed just four hits in the loss. The Student Princes were able to get runners on base in the sixth and seventh innings early, but double plays kept them scoreless late.

Adam Manner (1-2) took the loss on the mound for the Berg. The senior went seven innings, allowing six runs on 12 hits. Mason Goodwin threw one scoreless inning of relief, striking out one while giving up a pair of hits.

Game two started off slow for HU as well, as Capital took a 3-0 lead into the fifth inning.

An RBI groundout by Joe Walton got the Berg on the board to start the scoring. After a pair of runs scored thanks to Crusader errors, Adam Hershberger gave the Student Princes the lead with a two run double to make it a 5-3 game.

After a few scoreless innings, the Student Princes struck again in the top of the 7th. An RBI double by Alex Manner scored the first run of the inning before Derek Hug singled to plate Manner. Heidelberg scored one more on the inning when Parker Fronk registered a sacrifice fly to make it an 8-3 lead for the Berg.

With that lead intact, Anthony Hajdu pitched a scoreless eighth inning in relief while Cory Jacobs finished things out with a scoreless ninth inning.

Steve Huber (2-1) earned the win after throwing seven innings and allowing three runs, just two earned while striking out six.

Alex Manner, Derek Hug, Adam Hershberger, and Joe Walton all had multi-hit games for the Student Princes.
