Thomas More Defeats Waynesburg in PAC Opener

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College baseball team defeated Waynesburg University, 6-3, today (Friday, March 25, 2016) in its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 6-3 overall and 1-0 in the PAC.  With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 1-11 overall and 0-1 in the PAC. 

The Saints scored four runs in the first, one in the sixth and one in the eight, while holding Waynesburg to a run in the seventh and two in the ninth for the 6-3 victory.

Sophomore third baseman Bailey Abbatiello (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) led the team at the plate as he was three-for-three with a home run, a run scored and four runs batted-in.  Senior first baseman Donovan Pogue (Sharonville, Ohio/St. Xavier) was two-for-three at the plate with a run scored.

Senior pitcher Brandon Humphrey (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) earned the win as he pitched seven innings giving up one run (earned) on four hits, while striking out six and walking one.  Junior pitcher Ken Ruberg (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) earned the save as he pitched one inning and didn't allow a run or a hit, while striking out two and walking one.

Thomas More and Waynesburg will complete the three-game PAC series tomorrow (Saturday, March 26) when the two teams will play at doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. at Thomas More Field.
