Lynch, Apice and Rains Lead RIC to, 11-5, Win at Worcester State

Worcester, Mass.—Junior first baseman TJ Lynch (South Kingstown, RI) went 3-for-6 with three runs scored, two RBI and a homer as Rhode Island College defeated Worcester State, 11-5, at Lyons Diamond on Tuesday afternoon.

 

RIC (6-9-1) sophomore right fielder Edward Apice (North Kingstown, RI) was also stellar at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two walks, two doubles, two runs scored and a pair of RBI.

 

Junior starter PJ Watson (Cheshire, CT) picked up the win (1-1), allowing five runs on eight hits to go along with two strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work. The tandem of junior Jake Roy (Seekonk, MA) and senior Kory Lawrence (Woonsocket, RI) hurled 3.2 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just three hits to close out the win.

 

 Lynch put the visitors on top, 2-0, in the first with a two-run homer. Junior catcher Tyler Rains (North Kingstown, RI) gave RIC a three-run lead, 4-1, with a two-run double in the third.

 

 Sophomore first baseman Frank Pettinato (Cranston, RI) contributed an RBI double in the fifth and a two-run double by Apice made it a 7-4 advantage in the sixth.

 

RIC put the game away with a four-run seventh, highlighted by a Rains RBI double.

 

Rains finished the game going 4-for-4 with three RBI.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Becker on Wednesday, March 30 (3:30 p.m.).
