The University of Rochester bats broke out in a Liberty League doubleheader sweep of St. Lawrence University on Friday evening at UR's Towers Field.

Rochester (9-7, 4-2 Liberty League), pounded out 25 hits and scored 25 runs in the sweep, winning 11-1 in game one and 14-7 in the nightcap.  St. Lawrence drops to 3-10 and 2-4 in the Liberty League.

In the opener, UR was led by its senior middle-infield combo of Dan Warren and Steve Eychner.  Warren was a perfect 4-4 at the plate with 2 doubles, 3 runs scored and 2 RBI.  Eychner added a 3-4 game with a double, 3 RBI and 2 runs.  Two other seniors, catcher Nolan Schultz and outfielder Jake Meyerson also had multi-hit games.

The Yellowjackets also got another strong pitching effort from senior Evan Janifer who pitched a complete game 5-hitter, allowing one earned run while striking out six batters.  The earned run only the second surrendered (and first earned run) by the senior ace this season.  He improves to 3-1 on the year.

After a scoreless first inning, Rochester scored in each of the remaining five, culminating with three runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth to break it open.

Game two saw the UR open up a big lead early on, with a five run first inning before adding three more in the second.  The lead ballooned to 11-0 through five and eventually reached 14-0 before the visiting Saints tried to fight back, ending the game with seven unanswered runs.

Eychner and Schultz each had a second straight standout performance in game two, leading the Yellowjacket offense.  Schultz was 3-5, ending a triple shy of the cycle, adding 2 runs scored and a career-high 5 RBI.  Eychner was 3-3, also a triple short of the cycle, and had 3 runs and 3 RBI.

Junior Pete Carrier scored four runs while freshman Aiden Finch crossed home three times.

Rochester also got a solid outing from freshman starter Jack Denzer.  He threw six shutout innings, allowed just five hits while striking out four.  The win was the first in his career.

St. Lawrence was led in game two by outfielder Michael LeFevre who was 3-5 with two triples, an RBI and two runs scored.  Kyle MacDonald and Taylor Digillio each had two hits and two RBI for the Saints.

The same two teams battle it out again on Saturday with the doubleheader scheduled to start at noon.
