(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – Junior center fielder Casey Metzger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was a perfect five-for-five at the plate and the Thomas More College baseball team belted out 21 hits in a 17-4 win over Geneva College today (Tuesday, April 12, 2016) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 16-5 overall and 10-1 in the PAC. With the loss, the Golden Tornadoes fall to 7-16 overall and 2-11 in the PAC.
Geneva led 4-0 after two and a half innings after scoring two in the first and two in the third. Thomas More then scored four in the third, four in the fourth, one in the fifth, two in the sixth, three in the seventh and three in the eighth for the 17-4 win.
Metzger finished the day five-for-five at the plate with three runs scored and one run batted-in. Senior Donovan Pogue (Sharonville, Ohio/St. Xavier) was four-for-four with a double, three runs scored and three RBI and junior right fielder Ben Kenning (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was three-for-four with a double, four runs scored and four RBI.
Sophomore pitcher Brandon Eladis (Lawrenceburg, Ky./Anderson County) had a no-decision as he pitched three innings giving up four runs (all earned) on six hits and struck out five. Freshman pitcher Adam Ruwe (Park Hills, Ky./Covington Catholic) earned the win as he pitched four shutout innings and gave up two hits, while striking out four. Sophomore pitcher Noah Frantz (Crestwood, Ky./South Oldham) pitched one shutout inning of relief and gave up one hit and freshman pitcher Jonathan Breeden (Erlanger, Ky./Dixie Heights) had one inning of relief and didn't allow a hit, while striking out one.
Thomas More returns to action tomorrow when it travels to Louisville, Kentucky to play Spalding University at 4 p.m.
