St. John Fisher Routs Brockport - Winning Streak Hits Nine

The St. John Fisher College baseball team used a combination of offense and pitching to defeat the visiting College at Brockport, 18-0, on Wednesday afternoon at Dugan Yard. With the win, the Cardinals have won nine consecutive with four of them coming at home.

Fisher improves to 17-6 overall on the season, while the Golden Eagles fall to 16-10.

The Cardinals jumped out early in the first two innings to go up 5-0 and then put the game away in the bottom of the fourth as they scored five runs on three hits.

Senior Cody Wiktorski and junior Jack Trotman started the bottom of the fifth as each of them drew back-to-back walks for the Cardinals. Fisher loaded the bases as senior shortstop Mike Roman singled to center. First baseman Scott Eisenmenger cleared the bases as he hit an opposite field grand slam for his second home run in back-to-back home games.

Designated hitter Frank Carnevale kept the inning going as he doubled down the left field line with no outs.  He later advanced to third on a ground out to the shortstop by senior Joe Simmons grounded out to the shortstop. Carnevale later crossed the plate to close out the inning as junior right fielder Ryan Prevost hit sacrifice-fly to center.

The Cardinal offense was paced by Wiktorski who finished the day going 5-for-5 with two triples, two doubles, a single, a walk, six runs scored and three RBI. Teammate Eisenmenger finished the day going 2-for-2 with five RBI and a run scored.

Freshman starter Jim Dawson improved his record to 5-0 on the season. The six-foot five right-hander threw seven innings of scoreless ball as he allowed three hits and a walk, while fanning four. The Cardinal bullpen faced six batters and didn't allow one to reach base.  

Fisher heads to SUNY Canton on Saturday for an Empire 8 Conference double-header starting at 12 p.m.
