WALTHAM, Mass. – The Nichols College baseball team defeated Lasell College 6-3 in non-conference action Thursday evening at Stein Diamond. The Bison scratched across three runs over the final two frames to secure the victory.

The Bison received a solid pitching performance from freshman Thomas Hyland (Nashua, N.H.) as he pitched 5.2 innings and allowed two runs on six hits while walking two and striking out three. Freshman Danny Hayden (North Kingstown, R.I.) earned his first collegiate-win after pitching the next 2.1 frames and allowing just one run on one hit before sophomore Kevin Kirley (Clinton, Mass.) closed the door in the ninth with his conference-leading sixth save.

Sophomore Nick Roy (Middletown, Conn.) and junior Matt Hardy (North Attleboro, Mass.) both finished the game with three hits and one RBI while also scoring a run. Junior Tim Ford (Stafford Springs, Conn.) finished the game with only one hit but it proved to be the biggest hit of the game as he laced a 2-RBI double to left field in the eighth that scored Roy and Hardy.

Senior Skylar Beckerman (Pensacola, Fla.) had a pair of hits and a run scored while also driving in another to lead the Lasers who fall to 9-12 on the year – 0-2 against the Bison.

The Bison struck first with a three-run third inning. Senior Benjamin Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) singled in sophomore Greg Eng (Middletown, R.I.) followed by an RBI-single by Hardy through the left side that plated sophomore Scott Lynch (Hope, R.I.) to make it 2-0. Sophomore Spencer Madden (Nashua, N.H.) was plunked with the bases loaded allowing Harrow to score to round out the scoring for the inning.

The Lasers plated two in the sixth inning before tying the game up 3-3 in the seventh off of a fielder's choice that plated junior Hector Coscione (Newton, Mass.).

Lasell pitched by committee – sending five pitchers to the mound – but it was freshman David Marsell (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) took the loss, allowing two runs on three hits while also walking two in one inning of work.
