Keene, N.H.-Rhode Island College junior catcher Tyler Rains (North Kingstown, RI) went a combined 3-for-9 with a pair of RBI to lead the baseball team to a split in Little East Conference action against Keene State on Saturday afternoon.

The Owls (11-13, 2-4 LEC) took game one by a score of 2-1 in 11 innings before the Anchormen (10-15-2, 1-5 LEC) took game two by a score of 5-3.

The Anchormen struck early in game one, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on an RBI single up the middle by junior third baseman Scott Linnane (North Kingstown, RI) that drove in sophomore right fielder Edward Apice (North Kingstown, RI).

The Anchormen held the lead until the bottom of the sixth inning when junior designated hitter Trevor Chapin (Northfield, NH) knocked a single through the left side that drove in senior second baseman Billy Hartmann (Greenland, NH) to knot the score at one apiece.

In what has become a frequent occurrence for the Anchormen as of late, the game went into extra innings. It was in the bottom of the 11^th that Chapin struck again, singling to right field to drive in sophomore second baseman Christian Bourgea (Litchfield, NH) to secure the, 2-1, game one victory.

RIC starter, senior Dylan Pingitore (Johnston, RI) pitched 8.0 innings, allowing one run on six hits, while striking out seven in the no decision. Sophomore Myles Levy (Cranston, RI) picked up the loss (1-2), going 2.2 innings, allowing one run on three hits, while striking out a pair. Senior Cody Dube (Windham, ME) went 8.0 innings, allowing one run on five hits, while striking out 11, before giving way to senior Eddie Dionne (Concord, NH) who pitched the final three innings, allowing just one hit and striking out a pair in the victory (1-0).

The Owls wasted no time jumping out in game two, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first to take a 3-0 lead. Senior left fielder Vinny Parilla (Londonderry, NH), freshman right fielder Devin Springfield (Jaffrey, NH) and sophomore catcher Daniel Sarah (Mendon, MA) all recorded RBI in the stanza.

RIC cut the deficit down to two in the third inning when sophomore center fielder Brad Douglas (Wakefield, RI) sent a sacrifice fly to center field that would drive in Linnane. RIC would take the lead in the top of the fourth and never look back.

The offense got started when Apice doubled to right field, driving in junior left fielder Austin Barry (North Kingstown, RI), to make the score 3-2. Rains stepped up next, blasting a two-run home run to left field to give RIC the lead for good.

The Anchormen were able to tack on one more run in the top of the sixth inning when Douglas picked up his second RBI of the game, knocking a single to left field to make the score 5-3. The pitching staff did the rest, with Levy coming on in the ninth to pick up the save.

RIC starter, junior PJ Watson (Cheshire, CT) went 7.0 innings in the start, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out four in the victory (2-1). Following a scoreless eighth inning by RIC sophomore reliever Daniel Greaves (Warwick, RI), Levy came on in the ninth, securing a 1-2-3 inning to secure the save (1).

Keene junior pitcher Alan Schiff (East Hartford, CT) went 4.1 innings, allowing four runs, two earned, on six hits in the loss (2-1).

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Springfield on Monday, April 18 (3:30 p.m.).
