VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Seniors Michael ScimanicoRyan Mossman and Phil Morse combined for a six-hit shutout in game two as No. 7/11 Shenandoah University split its ODAC baseball doubleheader at Virginia Wesleyan Saturday afternoon.

Shenandoah (26-8, 12-5 ODAC) rebounded from a 6-1 loss in the opener to VWC (17-12, 11-7) to win game two, 1-0.

Scimanico (5-1) scattered five hits in the first seven innings before turning it over to Mossman and Morse for the eighth and ninth, respectively.

Mossman allowed a leadoff single before retiring the next three batters on a fly to left, a pop to short and a strikeout.

In the ninth, Morse recorded his sixth save by sandwiching a pair of strikeouts around a pop-up to first base.

The outstanding pitching held up an offense that was held to just four hits in the contest and just one after the second inning.

In the second, the Hornets scratched out the only run of the game as catcher Zach Herbaugh reached on an error, advanced to second on a groundout and scored on Lew Johnson's single.

Robert Marcelle followed with another single, but Johnson was stranded on third as Joe Coleman flied out to short left.

Scimanico did not need much help as he struck out 13 including at two each in the first, second, fourth, sixth and seventh.

The southpaw struck out the side in the fourth and sixth innings.

In game one, the Marlins touched senior Darrell Thompson (4-2) for four runs in the first three innings on their way to the 6-1 victory.

Thompson gave up six runs on 13 hits in 5 1/3 innings; he struck out seven.

Jake Loew had two of the squad's four hits.

Shenandoah plays its final home game on Tuesday in a 4 p.m. ODAC contest versus Eastern Mennonite.
