Hamilton Homers into History; Oswego Scores 26

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The No. 3/4 Oswego State baseball team clicked on all cylinders in a 26-0 victory over Cazenovia College on Tuesday afternoon at Laker Baseball Field. That score was the largest margin of victory in at least the last 15 seasons and Oswego's 26 runs is the most since a 25-4 win over Utica College on May 6, 2009. Oswego improves to 25-4 on the year while the Wildcats drop to 4-17.

At the plate, the Lakers accumulated 26 runs, 25 of which were driven in, on 28 hits, 11 of which were of the extra-base variety. On the mound, the domination was much of the same, as six Lakers combined to allow just three hits and zero runs over nine innings.

Of Oswego's 11 extra-base knocks, five were home runs, none more meaningful than Eric Hamilton's two-run shot in the fourth. That homer - to dead center field - was the junior's 12th of the season, setting a new Oswego State single-season program record. Hamilton's 12th dinger broke a mark that had stood for 18 years, originally set by Derek Myers in 1998. The Liverpool, N.Y. native went on to finish the day 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.

Myles Kutscher hit a solo shot in the next at-bat after Hamilton's historic blast while late in the game Eli Holton also mashed a home run with no one aboard. Rounding out those with hits that left the yard wereJohn Barnes with a grand slam and Mike Dellicarri with a two-run version in the fifth.

Dellicari finished a double short of the cycle, going 3-for-6 with two RBI and four runs scored. Holton wound up with a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate, scoring twice while driving in three others. Joining Hamilton and Holton with hits in every at-bat was Alex Brown, going 3-for-3, crossing the plate three times and driving in another Laker. Other Lakers with multiple hit outings included Robert Donnelly (2), Zach Whelan (2), Kutscher (2), Matthew Deblasio (2) and Jordan Giller (2).

Showing their versatility, relief pitchers Patrick Gosney and Cody LaFlamme each grabbed innings in the field. LaFlamme, a senior, caught the final three innings for Oswego and did not disappoint in his one at-bat. After fouling a pitch off, LaFlamme crushed the second pitch he saw into the left-center field gap for a double. Two batters later, Gosney – who entered at first base in the eighth – played copycat with a double of his own, his to left field.

Of the pitcher's that stayed in their normal roles on Tuesday, Bobby Zywicki moved to 2-0 on the year. Zywicki threw the game's first four frames to the tune of a one-hitter with five strikeouts. John-Michael GuarinoBrandon SchultzkieMike AbramsRyan Matthews and Matt Zakala each tossed one inning to close out the game, combining to allow just two hits while fanning nine Wildcat batters.

Oswego will now gear up for its rivalry with Cortland – ranked No. 1 in both the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and D3baseball.com polls. Cortland will visit campus for a three-game weekend series, with the series starting at 3 p.m. on Friday and closing with a 12 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday. Oswego currently sits atop the SUNYAC standings with a 10-2 mark while the Red Dragons are close second with an 11-4 record.
