Baseball Tops Immaculata 11-4 in Opening Game of Key CSAC Series

La Plume, Pa. – Keystone College opened a key Colonial States Athletic Conference baseball series with an 11-4 victory over visiting Immaculata University on Friday afternoon at Christy Mathewson Field.  The Giants, who build a 7-0 lead after three innings, improve to 22-6 on the spring and 8-2 in conference play while the Mighty Macs see their record drop to 18-15 overall and 8-5 in the CSAC.
 
Keystone took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning as Tony Hunter II (Atlanta, GA/South Effingham) launched a solo home run deep of the right field fence before Billy Nelson (Moscow, PA/North Pocono) walked and came around to score on a passed ball. 
 
The Giants plated five two-out runs the following inning on five hits to open up a 7-0 advantage.  home on a single to right field off the bat off Robbie Nardelli (Eynon, PA/Valley View)Julian Lanfranco (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) followed with a two-run base hit before coming home with the host's seventh run on an RBI single from Louis Reyes (Port St. Lucie, FL/Treasure Coast).
 
Immaculata got on the board in the top of the fourth inning on a two-out solo home run off the bat of Matt Simon to cut its deficit to 7-1.  Keystone countered in the bottom of the fifth inning with three unearned runs as Hunter scored on an error by the Mighty Macs before Randy Torres (Bronx, NY/All Hallows) drove in a pair with a double of the wall in right center to give the Giants a 10-1 advantage.
 
Howie Kalamets drove in Immaculata's second run with a two-out triple to the gap in right center in the visitor's seventh before coming home on a wild pitch to trim Keystone's lead to 10-3.  The Mighty Macs added an unearned run by scoring their fourth run on an error by the Giants with two outs in the ninth inning to close out the scoring.
 
Lanfranco finished the game with two RBIs and two runs scored, Torres had a pair of RBIs, Nelson scored three runs, and Hunter touched the plate twice.  Brandon Eady (Bowie, MD/DeMatha Catholic) paced Keystone with three hits while Reyes, Hunter, Nardelli, and Lanfranco all had a pair of hits for the hosts, who outhit Immaculata by a 14-5 margin.
 
Nardelli also threw out a pair of runners attempting to steal from behind the plate on the afternoon.  
 
Keystone starting pitcher Felix Baez (San Juan, PR/Colegio Presbiteriano de Puerto Nuevo) improved to 5-1 on the spring after yielding three runs on five hits while striking out nine batters in seven strong innings on the hill.  Hector Vargas (Corona, NY/Forest Hills) pitched a scoreless eighth inning with one walk and one punch-out before handing the ball off to Junior Bautista (Haina, Domincan Republic/Christiana), who yielded an unearned run on one walk to go along with one K in the ninth inning.
 
Immaculata starter Ryan Blough was charged with the loss after allowing 10 runs on 11 hits while striking out six batters through five innings.  Ryan Joyce was charged with one run on three hits while picking up one strikeout in the final three innings on the mound for the Mighty Macs.
 
Keystone will travel to Immaculata on Saturday as the Giants and Mighty Macs close out their regular season series with a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m.
