DEFIANCE, Ohio -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology relied on four multiple-run innings and a complete game three-hitter by Alec McNally to defeat Defiance College 10-0 on Sunday to cap a three-game Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball series.
The Fightin' Engineers scored two runs in the first and third innings, then added three more in the fourth and seventh frames to end the game early. Rose-Hulman won by the 10-run after seven-inning rule in play for HCAC series finales.
Senior Patrick Klima led the offense with three hits, including a double, with two runs scored and two RBIs. Freshman David Burnside also had two hits with two runs scored and one RBI. Senior Kody Alayon added a single, a walk and scored three runs. Seniors Caleb Kissel and Josh Koutnik joined junior Zach Trusk with two RBIs each.
The 10-hit, 10-run offense was more than enough for McNally to earn his second win this week. The senior right-hander tossed eight shutout innings at Franklin on Tuesday, before shutting out Defiance for all seven innings with nine strikeouts on Sunday.
Rose-Hulman maintained a three-game lead on the loss side in the HCAC standings with Sunday's win. The Fightin' Engineers host Anderson on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Military Appreciation Night Game at Art Nehf Field.
