The Carthage College baseball team (18-17, 10-8, 4th College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) defeated non-conference opponent Marian University (Wis., 9-28), 7-2, on Tuesday, May 3 at Augie Schmidt Field in Kenosha, Wis.

Carthage took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Reed Hero doubled, went to third on an infield grounder and scored on an RBI-single by Nick Pierce.  John Burkiewicz launched a two run home run to dead centerfield in the third, and Reed Hero followed with a two-run blast to left to put the Red Men up, 5-0.  A two-run single by Matt Rave in the fifth gave Carthage a 7-0 advantage.  The Sabres scored twice in the eighth to narrow the lead to 7-2, which closed out the scoring.

                                                                                                                                                                                         Pitch Pitcher Kyle Cibrario (2-0) started the game for the Red Men but gave way to Crosley Duckmann in the fourth inning. Duckmann, a third baseman by trade, made his first pitching appearance of the year.  Brandon Hrdlicka took over the sixth, Joe Nelson in the eighth and Luc DiMaso in the ninth, as Carthage rolled through a non-conference game pitching line.  Cibrario blanked the Sabres on three hits over three innings.  Connor Nelson (0-1), the first-of-four Marian hurlers, took the loss.  Carthage collected 11 hits, with Reed Hero going three-for-four with two runs scored and two RBI.

Carthage plays host to CCIW-opponent and No. 12 North Central College (26-7, 13-5, 1st CCIW) on Friday, May 6 in a 3 p.m. contest, also at Augie Schmidt Field.  The two teams conclude their three-game series, along with the regular-season conference schedule, on Saturday, May 7 with a Noon doubleheader at Zimmerman Stadium/Alumni Field in Naperville, Ill.  The Red Men play host to non-conference opponent Concordia University (Wis.) on Sunday, May 8 in a 1 p.m. game at Augie Schmidt Field.
