Adrian Clinches Share of Eighth-Consecutive MIAA Championship with 14-4 Comeback Win at Trine

ANGOLA, Ind.—Seniors Matt Andrus and Josh Knorr combined for six hits and five runs batted in, and junior Shane Healy pitched six effective innings, as the Adrian College baseball team came from behind to cruise past Trine University, 14-4, on Tuesday in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association baseball make-up contest that was originally scheduled for Saturday.

FOR ADRIAN
= Sophomore Brian Guck had four RBI on a groundout and double.

= Knorr went 3-for-4, including a double, with three runs scored, a walk and two RBI, while Andrus was 3-for-5 with a run and three RBI.  

= Four other Bulldogs enjoyed a multi-hit afternoon: senior Collin Parcher off the bench and juniorsRyan DorowIan MikowskiBrian Killinger.

THE OPPOSITION
= Trine led 1-0 and 2-1.
= Colton Conn, Jake Kendall and Zach Seder had two hits apiece.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
Holding a slim 3-2 lead, Adrian blew the game wide open with six runs in the top of the seventh inning. Andrus had the big hit with a two-run single to left field.

= Jake Kendall doubled to left center and Jacob Heller singled to center to get two runs back for the Thunder, but in the eighth the Bulldogs tacked on five more runs to push the lead to double digits. Guck cleared the bases with a double to the gap in right-center and Parcher hit a two-run blast—his first home run of the season--over the left field fence.

= Healy improved to 3-1 on the season, scattering seven hits and two runs over six innings of work. He struck out two and walked two.

= Seder homered to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead after two. 

= After a Knorr RBI-single up the middle to tie the score in the third, Trine went up 2-1 in the next frame on RBI-groundout by Kory Shackle.

= Adrian took the lead for good with two runs in the sixth. Andrus doubled down the right field line to knot it 2-2, and Guck had a RBI-groundout.

= The Bulldogs scored half their runs with two outs and hit over .400 with runners in scoring position. Conversely, Trine hit under .225 in the same scenario as the latter.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Dorow had a RBI to give him 54 on the season, breaking the Adrian single-season record held by Dan Slagle of 53 in 1999.

= Mikowski stole his MIAA-leading 23rd base today, eclipsing Alex Cowart's Bulldogs record of 22 set in 2008.

= Adrian hit nine doubles today, which is three shy of the NCAA Division III record.

= Adrian has clinched a share of its eighth MIAA championship in a row, tying a league record.

UP NEXT
= The Bulldogs return home on Friday against second-place Hope College at 2 and 4:30 p.m. A Senior Day ceremony at Nicolay Field will take place between games. Then the teams will travel to Holland on Saturday (1/3:30 p.m.) to close the regular season.
