CUNYAC: Big 8th Inning Lifts Bearcats Past John Jay, Play Staten Island Next

The Baruch College Bearcats defeated the Bloodhounds of John Jay College, 14-1, in the first game of the CUNYAC Double Elimination Baseball Championship that began Thursday afternoon at Westchester Community College in Valhalla, New York.

The Bearcats led 3-1 entering the eighth inning in a game that appeared destined to finish in under two hours, but they exploded for 11 runs in a 40 minute eighth inning for the opening tournament win.

The Bearcats will next play in the winner's bracket game tomorrow at 4 p.m. against the College of Staten Island in their home stadium in an exciting rematch of last year's tournament.


Joseph Calistarred today with a complete game effort with no earned runs and six hits.

At the plate,
Jasdeep Buttar(3-for-6, 3 RBI) and Luca Altamirano(3-for-5, 3 RBI, 2 SB) created the damage, while Nicholas Calabresewas busy scoring a career-high four runs.
