King’s Baseball Ninth Inning Rally Falls Short in Season-Ending 6-4 Loss to Manhattanville

MONARCHS ELIMINATED FROM MAC FREEDOM TOURNAMENT WITH LOSS TO MANHATTANVILLE

WEST LAWN, PA --- The King's College baseball team saw their season come to an end with a 6-4 loss to Manhattanville College on Saturday afternoon in an elimination game of the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Tournament at Owls Field in West Lawn.

Third-seeded Manhattanville improves to 25-15 and continues their season another day while the fourth-seeded Monarchs season ends with a 23-15 record.

King's got on the board in the first when Sean Padden knocked in Tom Gibbons on a fielder's choice to the shortstop with the base loaded and one out. The Valiants responded with three runs on four hits in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-1 lead into the second inning.

The Monarchs tied the game in the third when Chris Rebar hit a leadoff triple to right center and was knocked in by a single to right by Kyle Lupas. Lupas then scored two batters later on a single by Christian Pack.

The game remained tied until the sixth when the Valiants scored twice to take a 5-3 lead. Manhattanville added on another run in the seventh to increase the lead to 6-3.

In the top of the ninth Dan Hartson led off with a pinch hit single through the left side. Gibbons then doubled down the left field line to put runners at second and third. After Bruce Breithaupt walked to load the bases with one out Lupas hit a sacrifice fly to deep center field to score Hartson. The rally fell short when Padden hit a deep ball to left field that the left fielder made an acrobatic jumping catch on the warning track.

Tom Gibbons had two hits and scored a run for King's while Kyle Lupas had a hit, two RBIs, and a run scored. Sean Padden and Christian Pack each knocked in a run.

Zach Palansky pitched 6.0 innings and allowed five runs on eight hits with three strikeouts. Nick Deno pitched 2.0 innings in relief and allowed one run on two hits with a walk and a strikeout.
