King’s Baseball Falls to Misericordia in Opening Game of MAC Freedom Tournament

MONARCHS FALL TO COUGARS 4-1 IN MAC FREEDOM TOURNAMENT

WEST LAWN, PA --- The fourth-seeded King's College baseball team fell to top-seeded Misericordia University 4-1 on Saturday in the opening game of the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Tournament at Owls Field in West Lawn.

With the win in the double-elimination event, Misericordia improves to 31-10 with the win while King's falls to 23-14.

The Cougars got on the board in the first when they were able to manufacture a run on a Alec Iurato sacrifice fly to right center to score Chris Boroch from third. In the fourth King's had their first scoring opportunity of the game when Kyle Lupas singled to center and then Sean Padden walked with one out. However, Christian Pack grounded into a fielder's choice to third and then Brad Wilkins grounded out to first to end the inning.

The Monarchs threatened to score again in the sixth when they loaded the bases with two outs on singles by Lupas and Padden and then Wilkins was hit by a pitch. The Cougars were able to force Zack Godfrey to ground out to end the inning without a run. In the bottom half of the inning the Cougars added three runs to their lead. D.J. Navoczynski led off the inning with a double down the left field line. He then scored when Mike Comerford beat out a bunt single to third base and advance to second on a throwing error. Two batters later Comerford scored on a sacrifice bunt by Al Reda. Jeremy DeCotiis scored the final run of the inning on a wild pitch.

In the eighth inning Bruce Breithaupt led off with a single to left field and two batters later Padden singled through the left side to put runners on first and second. Bretihaupt then scored when Wilkins reached on a throwing error by the Cougar shortstop.

Andrew Fisher pitched well for the Monarchs in the loss giving up four runs, only two earned in 8.0 innings on seven hits, two walks, and two strikeouts. Kyle Lupas and Sean Padden had two hits each for King's while Bruce Breithaupt had a hit and scored a run.

The Cougars were led by Jeremy Decotiis who had two hits and scored a run. Alec Iurato had a hit and an RBI while Al Reda knocked in a run. Ryan Dorosh allowed one unearned run on five hits and five strikeouts in 7.2 innings to earn the win. Elliot Forde got the last four outs to pick up the save.

King's will now face the loser of DeSales University and Manhattanville College at approximately 5:20 p.m.
