Ithaca Baseball Routs St. John Fisher, 16-1

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team wrapped up its regular season with a convincing, 16-1, Empire 8 Conference victory against St. John Fisher College on Sunday at Freeman Field. Ithaca will head into next week's Empire 8 tournament, also at Fisher, with an overall record of 24-14.

Ithaca's 16 runs scored on Sunday are the most Fisher has allowed all season and it snapped the Cardinals' seven-game winning streak. Fisher entered today's game with the nation's best ERA at 2.17. Ithaca also drew 10 walks and notched seven extra base hits.

The Bombers trailed, 1-0, after the second inning, but put up three runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth to take control of the game. In the seventh, Ithaca erupted for seven runs on four hits, including a two-run homerun by sophomore Domenic Boresta. The final run of the contest crossed in the eighth inning.

In the fourth, junior Trevor Thompson led off with a solo homerun and then freshman Adam Gallagher drove in two runs on a triple. Boresta and freshman Matt Carey scored on the hit.

Thompson ripped a double down the leftfield line in the fifth to bring in Savacool, and freshman Sam Little followed with a two-base hit to drive in Thompson. The other two runs scored in the inning came on errors by the Cardinals' defense.

After the Boresta round-tripper in the seventh, Gallagher and senior Zach Cole scored on an error. Thompson then drove in his third run of the game on a single to plate Savacool, and the inning capped off with a bases loaded hit by pitch to Carey to push in junior Brennan McCormack and a wild pitch allowed Thompson to score.

An RBI double from freshman Jake Generali concluded the 16-run output for the Bombers in the eight. Junior Ryan Dougherty score from third on the play.

Sophomore Tyler Hill picked up his fifth win of the season in seven innings of work. Hill scattered six hits and struck out three.

Junior Logan Barer tossed the final two innings and fanned two batters.

Thompson went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI, while S. Little had two hits in three at bats with two runs scored, an RBI and two walks. Savacool scored three times, walked twice, stole a base and went 1-for-2 at the plate.

The Bombers play again on May 12 at Fisher. The Empire 8 tournament seedings have not been released yet.
