Kean Powers Past Farmingdale, 10-3

Union, N.J. (5/12/16) – Seniors Andy Lopez and Sal Taormina combined for seven hits, four RBI and six runs scored as the Kean University baseball team closed out the regular season with a 10-3 win over Farmingdale State College on Thursday evening.

Taormina was a home run short of the cycle as he was 3-for-4 with four runs scored and a walk. 

With the wins today, Kean now stands with a 26-16 overall record and must play the waiting game to see if an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament is in their future.  The tournament bracket will be announced early Monday morning. 

In tonight's action, the Cougars raced out to an 8-1 lead after three innings, using a five spot in the third.  With two outs in the first, Kean used an RBI double from Taormina, an RBI single from Lopez and an RBI single from Frank Urso to take a 3-0 lead.  After giving up a single run to the Rams (20-17) in the second, the Cougars exploded for five more in the third.  Junior Tyler Heisch provided multiple RBI with a single up the middle in the stretch.

Kean used balanced scoring the rest of the way as they recorded 15 hits in the contest.

Senior Chris Amato (6-3) picked up the win after tossing five innings allowing one run and five hits. 

Michael Lynch was 3-for-4 for Farmingdale while Urso finished 2-for-3 with three RBI.
