Union, N.J. (5/12/16) – Junior Richie Ferguson tossed the second nine-inning no-hitter in school history as the Kean University baseball team blanked St. Joseph's College-Long Island, 5-0, in game one of a split doubleheader.

Ferguson (7-4) pitched the minimum allowing just one walk along the way which was erased via a caught stealing early in the first inning.  He struck out six in the 88 pitch outing, his sixth complete game of the year.  Oddly enough, the only other Cougar to have recorded a no-hitter was sitting in the dugout today as assistant coach Steve Bucchignano holds the honor.

Offensively Kean (25-16) got all the offense they would need in the fourth as senior Sal Taormina started off the inning with a double down the line.  Classmate Andy Lopez followed with a walk and both moved into scoring position with a sacrifice from sophomore Matt Krupa.  Later in the inning with two outs, senior Ryan Reitmeyer delivered with a single in the hole for a 2-0 lead.

The Cougars added to their lead with a single run in the seventh as senior Ryan Kelley doubled home Shayne Fontana who reached via a single earlier in the inning.

In the eighth it was Reitmeyer again with an RBI sacrifice and Fontana with the RBI line drive triple to give Kean a 5-0 advantage.

With two outs in the top of the ninth, Reitmeyer saved the no-hitter as he dove to his right, smothering a ball up the middle and was able to get up and throw a strike to first to capture the win.

Reitmeyer was 1-for-3 with three RBI.
