The Oglethorpe baseball team faced a tough matchup against No. 1 Emory Wednesday afternoon at the Eagles' campus in the Druid Hills neighborhood of Atlanta, and couldn't overcome an Emory scoring barrage in a 17-1 defeat. The Stormy Petrels gave up 21 hits on the afternoon while managing just 7 themselves, and the result dropped the team to 6-6 on the season.

The Eagles scored 8 runs in the fourth inning off Oglethorpe pitching after taking a 3-0 lead into that frame. They then gave up 4 more runs in the fifth, making the score 15-0 at that point. Top-ranked Emory was able to cruise home from there, adding a couple more in the seventh.

The Petrels finally got a run back in the ninth inning, breaking up the shutout. Junior right fielder Henry Edwards walked to lead off the inning and senior Morgan Blake followed with a pinch-hit single. The games are subject to movement due to weather, but as currently scheduled, the two teams will face off Friday at 7 p.m. Eastern and Saturday at 2 p.m., the latter comprising a doubleheader.
