FORT PIERCE, Fla. (March 11, 2017) – Senior catcher Mike Miraglia's 100th career hit was a game-tying single in the top of the eighth to help the Drew University baseball team erase an early 6-0 deficit and beat Penn State Behrend, 8-7, in the Rangers' final game at the Florida Gulf Coast Spring Training on Friday morning.
 
By the Numbers
The Rangers finish their seven-game swing in the Sunshine State with a 6-1 record and return to New Jersey with an 8-2 overall mark. The Lions had a six-game winning streak snapped at the hands of Drew and fall to 6-6 on the season in their final game in Florida.
 
Top Performers
• Junior right fielder Ryan Sabbag was the first to tie the game, bringing Drew all the way back from a 6-0 hole in the sixth inning with an RBI sacrifice bunt. He finished the day 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs.
• Senior left fielder Mike DiDonato was 3-for-4 out of the leadoff spot with a run scored and two RBIs.
• Senior closer Tommy Broyles earned the win on the bump after hurling the final 2.1 scoreless innings to improve to 2-0 on the season. Broyles allowed four hits, walked none and struck out two, including one to end the game with the tying run on base. Broyles has yet to allow a run to score this season through 9.1 innings of work.
 
The Difference
Two Rangers delivered clutch at-bats in possible game-tying situations. In the sixth, junior second baseman Isaiah Mateo doubled to set up runners on second and third with no one out. DiDonato singled, then Sabbag dropped his sac bunt for the 6-6 tie.
 
The Lions went ahead 7-6 in the bottom of the seventh, but the Rangers were quickly up for another comeback. This time, it was Miraglia who celebrated his 100th career hit milestone by tying the game at 7-7. Three at-bats later with two outs, Drew pushed across the eventual winning run on a wild pitch.
 
Highlights
• The Lions scored five in the bottom of the first on five hits and two Drew errors. PSB scored again in the fourth on a bases-loaded walk for the 6-0 advantage.
• The comeback started in the fifth inning on DiDonato's first RBI base hit. Sabbag followed with a two-run double before freshman designated hitter Matthew Lange recorded an RBI groundout to bring the score to 6-4 in favor of Behrend.
• Senior pitcher Patrick Boyle pitched an effective three bridge innings to get to Broyles, allowing a run on two hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Boyle picked off a runner in the sixth who had been on base after a one-out single.
