BRIDGEWATER, Va. – No. 1 Shenandoah University earned its second ODAC victory of the season with an 11-5 triumph over Bridgewater College.

Shenandoah (16-1, 2-1 ODAC) scored three runs in the first, and after BC (8-11, 2-3) rallied with single runs in the first and third, pulled away with three runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and three more in the ninth.

Senior Jake Loew was responsible for those final three runs as he hit his league-leading seventh home run of the season, crushing a Johnny LaVoie offering over the right-field fence to extend the Hornets lead to 11-5.

LaVoie was the seventh pitcher of the afternoon for BC; Jordan Showalter (2-1) took the loss after giving up three runs on eight hits and three walks in 3 1/3 innings of work.

Sophomore Michael Bugonowicz (2-0) was the winning pitcher for SU. Coming on with one out in the fifth, Bugonowicz allowed two runs on four hits and one walk in 4 2/3 innings. He also struck out four.

Bugonowicz came on for classmate Zach Teeple, who gave up three runs on nine hits and one walk in 4 1/3 innings.

The Hornets scored the 11 runs on 11 hits with Loew leading the way with a 3-for-5, 4 RBI afternoon. Neil Dutton and Nick Goode each drove in three runs with Dutton driving in the initial run on a single to left in the first before Goode followed with a double to left to plate both Loew and Dutton.

Tristan Baker and Michael Cruz both had two hits and scored three runs.

Shenandoah continues this road trip with a noon doubleheader at No. 20 Roanoke Saturday.
