ABERDEEN, MD. -- Gwynedd Mercy and Haverford headed south to the Ripken Experience Aberdeen to play a doubleheader on Sunday. The Griffins would prevail in both games, taking the first, 3-2 in eight innings and the second, 10-2.

In game one, Dave Tatoian singled home Justin Curtin in the top of the eighth for the go-ahead run in a 3-2 win. The Griffins broke a scoreless tie in the fifth with two runs. Tommy Nardini would score from second on a throwing error at first. Later, Curtin knocked in Iziah Trimble for the 2-0 advantage.

Haverford crossed a run in the sixth to cut the lead in half. With runners at second and third, Jared Gorman entered for starter Gino Tripodi. Spence Sohmer grounded out to short, but a run would score. The Fords forced extras as their run in the seventh came on a bunt with runners on the corners.

After Tatoian's go-ahead RBI in the eighth, Gorman cemented the relief win in the bottom half.

Curtin went 3-for-4 and Ryan Keen was 2-for-4 with a two-run home run as GMercyU opened up a one-run game. Mike Di Ianni went the distance, striking out six while allowing just two unearned runs on four hits.

The Fords grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first on a two-run single from Ben Verducci. But from there, it was all Griffins. A three-spot in the second precluded a four-run fifth and a three-run sixth.

Keen doubled to lead off the fifth and come around to score on a single from Tatoian. Derek Whitfield added an RBI single and later scored on a balk for a 6-2 edge. Keen struck again in the sixth, smacking his first homer of the season, a two-run shot, to highlight the frame.

Di Ianni was in cruise control, yielding just two baserunners after the first inning to pick up his second win on the year.

Whitfield added three hits on the day, while he, Keen, and Shaughn Wright scored twice.
