Migliorini Drives in Five as #9 R-MC Baseball Splits DH at BC

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Junior Cole Migliorini (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) went 4 for 6 with three runs and five RBI as the ninth-ranked Randolph-Macon baseball team split an ODAC doubleheader at Bridgewater Saturday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets (15-5, 6-1 ODAC) won the opener 16-7, but dropped the nightcap 7-5 to the Eagles (9-12, 3-4 ODAC).

Migliorini had two doubles, one home run and three walks.

In Game 1, R-MC scored multiple runs in six of nine innings. In the top of the second, Migliorini and junior Joseph Tuzzolo (Newport News, Va./Menchville) had walks before a single by senior Jay Patti (Sparks, Md./Hereford) plated Migliorini and a sacrifice fly by sophomore Ryan Hickman (Ruther Glen, Va./Caroline) brought home Tuzzolo to make it 2-0.

Junior Rick Spiers (South Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) had an RBI double and senior Stuart Brown (Midlothian, Va./Trinity) delivered a sacrifice fly in the third as the lead grew to 4-0.

In the fourth, freshman Zach Evans (Fort Mill, S.C./Seneca) had an RBI double and sophomore Jeff Butler (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) delivered a two-run double as the Yellow Jackets expanded their lead to 7-0. Brown had a leadoff single and scored on a groundout by Patti to make it 8-0.

In the sixth, Spiers had a sacrifice fly and freshman Ryan Duphorn (Erial, N.J./Paul VI) scored on a wild pitch as R-MC grew the lead to 10-0.

After BC plated one in the sixth and three in the seventh, R-MC answered with four in the eighth. Migliorini had a two-run double and scored on an error before Brown homered to make it a 14-4 contest.

Sophomore Matthew Blaise (Clifton, Va./Centreville) had a two-run single in the top of the ninth before the Eagles scored three in the bottom of the ninth to make the final 16-7.

Duphorn had two hits and four runs, while Migliorini, Spiers and Brown each had two hits and two RBI.

Junior Cody Thompson (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) earned the victory, going seven innings with 12 hits, four runs, two walks and four strikeouts to raise his record to 5-0. The Yellow Jackets scored nine or more runs in each of their first ODAC contests.

In Game 2, R-MC erased a 1-0 deficit with three in the fifth. Butler had an RBI single, while Spiers and Migliorini had consecutive sacrifice flies to give the Yellow Jackets a 3-1 lead. BC put up five in the fifth and one in the sixth to go ahead 7-3.

Migliorini had a two-run homer in the ninth, but the visitors fell 7-5.

Migliorini drove in three, while sophomore Ian Pape (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) had two hits for the Yellow Jackets.

Randolph-Macon returns to action on Tuesday, March 28, with a 5 p.m. non-conference contest at Ferrum.
