SWARTHMORE, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Baseball Team won their third game in a row with a 5-1 win over Swarthmore College Thursday afternoon.

The Griffins used another stellar performance out of freshman pitcher Jared Gorman who worked eight strong innings allowing just one unearned run and striking out two. Sachael Sciarretta worked a scoreless ninth for the Griffins' seventh victory on the season.

Gwynedd struck early with a two out RBI single from Dave Tatoian to plate Justin Curtin in the top half of the first.

The Griffins crossed another run in the third when Jason Mulvey would score on a Swarthmore error with one out after leading off the inning with a walk.

In the sixth, Jacee Orta would drive in Bobby Heck with a two out double for the 3-0 lead. After two quick outs to start the inning, Derek Whitfield would start the rally with a single. Heck would enter for Whitfield and find himself in scoring position after a Tommy Nardini walk. Orta who entered the game earlier as a pinch runner would smack a double to score the runner from second base.

The Garnet would get a run back in the home half of the sixth when they would capitalize on a Griffin error with two outs in the inning.

Josh Lopez would add a pair of insurance runs in the eighth inning when he connected on a two-run home run, scoring Shaughn Wright for the 5-1 lead.

Swarthmore would get a runner to reach in the ninth with one out but Sciarretta would retire the last two batters for the Griffins third win in a row.

Tatoian would go 2-for-4 on the day to extend his eight-game hitting streak.
