Baruch, CCNY Split Doubleheader

The Baruch College Bearcats and the Beavers of CCNY played a doubleheader on an overcast and blustery Sunday afternoon at MCU Park Brooklyn Cyclones on Coney Island.

The Bearcats rallied to win the first game 7-3, but suffered a tough 2-1 loss in the second game, despite limiting the visiting Beavers to two hits.

In the opener, the Bearcats fell behind 2-0, but rallied beginning in the third inning with an RBI single by
Edwin St. Hilaire to plate Ramon Moreta

They took a 4-2 lead in the fourth as Hilaire smacked another RBI single and
Gilberto Mendoza, Jr. came through with a two run single for a 4-2 score

The Beavers added a run in the top fifth to get as close as 4-3, but the Bearcats took control in the sixth inning with another three-run inning.


Matthew Donofrio scored on a failed pick off attempt, while Michael McGroarty had a sacrifice fly RBI and Moreta scored on a passed ball for the 7-3 score.

LHP
Cameron Kitt (7 IP, 10 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 12 K) sealed the complete game win with three strikeouts in the final inning to raise his season record to 2-0. 

In the second contest, the Bearcats suffered a frustrating 2-1 loss as LHP Anthony Cacchione (7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K) pitched the complete game win.

They scored first in the third on an RBI single by
Sean McNamara to plate Dan Daley. The visitors scored their two runs in the fourth on a two run triple to deep centerfield by Adrian Pena that stood for the final 2-1 score line.

Matthew Fazio suffers the loss, despite allowing only two hits with one earned run and nine strikeouts.

The Bearcats will regroup and return to action on Tuesday, March 28, with a 3:30 p.m. non-conference contest at New Jersey City University.
