Wolves Fall to DePauw University in Baseball

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Keuka College Baseball team was swept in Florida on Sunday by DePauw University. The Tigers topped the Wolves 14-1 in Game 1 and 9-4 in the nightcap.

Tyler Krowiak (Endwell, N.Y. / Seton Catholic) went a combined 5-8 on the day for Keuka College. All five hits were singles for the sophomore catcher and he drove in a pair of runs.  Dakota Skinner (Waverly, N.Y. / Tioga) got the start in right field in Game 2 and took advantage of it by going a perfect 3-3 at the plate.

Keuka College 1 vs. DePauw University 14

The Tigers struck early against Keuka College on Sunday with three runs in the top of the first inning. They added to their lead with four more in the third. Keuka College plated their lone run in the fourth as Krowiak singled home Connor Siracuse (Auburn, N.Y. / Union Springs). DePauw responded with five more runs in the fifth and added a tally in the sixth and seventh on their way to the 14-1 victory.

Lead Wolf: Tyler Krowiak shined at the plate in Game 1 for the Wolves. The sophomore was in search of his first hit of the season and broke out in a big way. The three hits for Krowiak sets a new career-high for hits in a game.

Keuka College 4 vs. DePauw University 9

DePauw took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but Keuka tied the game in the third. Freshman Tyler Broderick (State College, Pa. / Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy) singled home fellow freshman Anthony Mashewske (Newark, N.Y. / Newark) to tie the game at 1-1. After the Tigers regained the one-run lead, Keuka tied it again on a single by Tyler Krowiak. DePauw looked to put the game away in the fourth when they plated four runs to take a 6-2 lead. Keuka College responded with a run in the fifth, but the Tigers plated two more in the bottom of the inning and continued onto the 9-4 victory.

Lead Wolf: Junior Dakota Skinner had a career-high three hit game on Sunday against the Tigers and was on base all four plate appearances. Skinner had three singles and a walk in the game.

KC Notes:

  • Sunday was the first meetings ever between Keuka College and DePauw University
  • Dave Nuzzo (Manlius, N.Y. / Fayetteville Manlius) and Dan Bamann (Rochester, N.Y. / Irondequoit) both had their five game hitting streaks to start the season snapped in Game 1. Both, however, rebounded with hits in Game 2
  • Dakota Skinner has had a multi-hit game in four of the six games he has played in this season.

Coming up for Keuka College: The Wolves will remain in Florida for a doubleheader against Crown College from Minnesota on Monday. Keuka College swept Crown in Florida last season 8-0 and 2-1.
