ASTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton baseball team was unable to get its offense untracked in a 4-1 loss to Muhlenberg on Wednesday night at the Maplezone Sports Institute.

The Royals (8-9) managed just five hits in the defeat, including two each from senior outfielder Anthony Simone (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley Senior) and junior infielder Brad Schneider (Ambler, Pa./La Salle College H.S.).

Muhlenberg (8-8) scored twice in the bottom of the second and once in the bottom of the third to build a 3-0 lead. Scranton crept closer with a run in the top of the seventh when sophomore infielder Ian McIntosh (Newtown, Pa./LaSalle College H.S.) walked and later scored on an error.

But the Mules put any Scranton comeback hopes to rest with a run in the eighth and holding the Royals off the board in the final two innings.

Four Royals pitchers combined to allow just two earned runs on five hits and two walks with nine strikeouts. Sophomore Pat Rohr (Audubon, Pa./Devon Prep) suffered a tough loss, allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits and a walk while fanning five in five innings.

The Royals will be back in action on Saturday when they host Elizabethtown in a Landmark Conference doubleheader at Connell Park at 1 p.m.
