BOSTON, Mass. – With another huge day at the plate for Chris Fowler (Barnstable, Mass.) baseball got right back on the winning track as they defeated Worcester State University by the final of 7-3 Monday evening at Monan Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED

On top of Fowlers strong day at the plate, the Beacons also took advantage of four Worcester State errors, which proved costly in the later innings of Monday's contest.  Originally, the two teams were supposed to meet tomorrow, but the game was changed due to rain in the forecast for all of Tuesday.

On the night, Fowler finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and a two-runs scored.  Kyle Boudrias (Medford, Mass.) also had a decent showing with a 2-for-4 showing at the plate, which included one run scored.  The Beacons pitching staff also showcased a variety of arms.  Joe Maguire (Peabody, Mass.) had the best showing by far in the win as he allowed just one run on one hit while collecting a pair of strikeouts.

For the third straight game, the Beacons wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Fowler unloaded a two-run double in the bottom half of the first inning.  Worcester State would then cut the deficit in half in the third inning on a bases loaded walk.

In the fourth inning UMass Boston knocked in their third run of the night on a Josh Lopez (New Haven, Conn.) RBI single to center field, which plated Fowler.  UMB then made it a three-run game in the fifth with a sac-fly by Ryan McCormick (Cumberland, R.I.). 

Things started to get interesting in the top of the seventh, when the Lancers recorded a pair of runs to make it a one-run game for the second time.  However, UMB would respond immediately in the bottom half of the inning with Danny Brown (Hudson, N.H.) driving in a run, while the Beacons would get a pair of runs thanks to back-to-back wild pitches by Luke Brennan.

Bobby Tramondozzi (Peabody, Mass.) closed out the final three innings in dominating fashion, as he allowed just one hit.  Tyler Barrie was handed his third loss of the year after allowing four runs, three earned, on five hits through five innings.

BY THE NUMBERS

• The Beacons now lead the all-time series with Worcester State 20-19
• UMass Boston has now won three straight over the Lancers and six of their last seven meetings. 
• The Beacons improved to 2-0 all-time at Monan Park when facing Worcester State
