ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team ran its record to 12-8 on the season with a 6-4 non-conference win at the University of Rochester on Tuesday afternoon at Towers Field. Ithaca produced 12 hits in the victory to drop Rochester to a 6-11 mark.

After two-and-a-half scoreless innings, Rochester got on the board first with a single to left field. Prior to the run-scoring hit, Ithaca turned a double play with the bases loaded to alleviate some of the pressure.

The Bombers then plated three runs in the top of the fourth to take a 3-1 lead on four hits. Ithaca's rally started with a lead-off double from senior Trevor Thompson and he would score two batters later on an RBI single from classmate Ryan Henchey. Junior Domenic Boresta put the Bombers in front with a base hit to center to drive in sophomore Sam Little, who reached on an error, and then sophomore Jake Generali drove in Boresta to cap off the inning.

Once the Bombers established the 3-1 edge, junior Robby Buffis locked in on the mound and tossed three straight 1-2-3 innings from the sixth to the eighth.

In the top half of the eight, Ithaca added two more runs to its lead on a triple by S. Little to plate his brother Webb Little, and then he scampered home on a wild pitch to make the score 5-1.

W. Little added an insurance run for the Bombers in their final at bat, driving in senior Josh Savacool with an infield single.

Rochester would not go down without a fight; however, as the Yellowjackets knocked Buffis out of the game two batters into the inning. In came sophomore Jake Binder and two runs immediately scored for Rochester on consecutive groundouts. Three straight base hits ensued to bring the game to a 6-4 count, but Binder caught the final batter looking to end the game.

W. Little went 3-for-4 with an RBI, run scored and walk, while Savacool was 2-for-5. The other seven batters in the lineup notched one hit in the win. Along with Thompson, W. Little, Savacool and sophomore Matt Carey all doubled for the Bombers.

Buffis tossed a gem on the afternoon, lasting eight-plus innings. He only allowed one run on four hits leading into the ninth inning, and finished the game with a final line of five hits, three earned runs and two strikeouts. Binder surrendered three hits and an unearned run.

The Bombers will be home tomorrow for an Empire 8 Conference showdown with Houghton College at 4 p.m.
