WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 1 Shenandoah University baseball finished off a regular season sweep of ODAC rival Bridgewater with a 17-6 win Tuesday at Bridgeforth Field.
Shenandoah (25-2, 10-2 ODAC) scored seven runs in the third, five in the fourth and four in the sixth to pull away from the Eagles (11-19, 4-10).
Bridgewater, which used 11 pitchers, issued 11 walks which allowed the Hornets to score the 17 runs on just 13 hits.
Andrew Berry (1-3), the third of the 11 men to take the mound for BC, was tagged with the loss after allowing five runs on one hit and two walks in 2/3 of an inning.
Shenandoah went deep on two occasions in the contest – Neil Dutton hit a 3-run HR to left as part of that seven-run third and Dan Cameron hit a grand slam in the sixth.
Cameron finished the game 2-for-4 with five RBI and two runs scored.
First baseman Luke Nussman, who broke open the contest with a two-run single up the middle in the third, finished 4-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored.
Robert Marcelle rounded out the players with multiple hits – he was 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored from his No. 9 position in the order.
Junior Michael Bugonowicz (4-0) tossed the first five innings to earn the win. He allowed three runs on five hits and four walks while striking out five.
Matt Burns pitched the sixth, seventh and eighth with Steve Jones working a 1-2-3 ninth to close the door.
Jake Bailey was 2-for-2 for Bridgewater.
Shenandoah continues this homestand on Thursday with a 4 p.m. non-league contest versus Frostburg.
