The Oglethorpe baseball team had a rough go of it Tuesday evening against their crosstown rivals, the Emory Eagles. The visiting team scored 10 runs in the third inning, giving themselves an 8-run lead at that point en route to a 19-3 blowout of the Stormy Petrels. The loss dropped the Petrels to 16-15 on the season overall. 

The Petrels jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the ball game, giving no hint of what was to come. Junior center fielder Jarvis Miller reached first on an error to lead things off, which was followed by junior catcher Bobby Rezac doubling down the left-field line. The extra-base hit scored Miller and gave Oglethorpe a 1-0 advantage. Then with one out in the inning, Rezac stole third and was subsequently driven home with an RBI double from junior designated hitter Adrian Celata. 

However, the Petrels ran into trouble after that. They allowed 10 runs in the third inning, followed by six in the fourth and three more in the fifth. Senior right-hander Sam Traxler got the start and suffered the loss, allowing 6 earned runs on 2 hits over two-plus innings. He walked just one, but hit five Emory batters in the third inning. For the game, Oglethorpe pitching allowed 14 earned runs on 16 hits, including 2 home runs, 3 walks and 6 hit batsmen. 

The Petrels added an additional run in the eighth inning off of an Emory error, but the game had been decided by that point.

The Oglethorpe lineup scored their 3 runs on just 4 hits and 3 walks, striking out 13 times on the evening.

The game saw 47 players combined see action between the two teams. Twenty-four players got into the game for the Petrels, while 23 saw the field for Emory.

The Petrels will be back in action over the weekend, as they travel to Mount Berry to get back to SAA play. They'll take on Berry Friday at 6 p.m., before returning to northwest Georgia on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
