LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University baseball team defeated Webster University, 6-1, in the second game of their Saturday doubleheader. The win improves the Golden Eagles to 21-9 overall, 11-2 in SLIAC play. The loss drops the Gorloks to 17-9 overall, 7-2 in conference play.
Kyle Olliges (7-1) picks up the win, while Kyle Uhrich (4-1) is hit with loss. Olliges threw six innings of five hit baseball, while striking out six batter and surrendering one run.
Kam Bruner led the way at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double, stolen base, run batted in, and run scored. Clay Kelly went 1-for-3 with two runs batted in and a run scored. Issac Lineberry went 1-for-3 with a run batted in. Nic Chafin was 0-for-1 with a pair of walks, a run batted in, and run scored.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early lead as they scored one in the bottom of the first on a Bruner double. It was a 1-0 ballgame until the bottom of the sixth, as Spalding scored five runs on just three hits, including a two-run single from Kelly. The Gorloks made things interesting in the top of the seventh, as they loaded the bases and scored one but left the bases loaded as Chance Brinley struck out the last batter of the game, finishing off the win.
The Golden Eagle Nine will be back in action Saturday, April 22nd, as they head to Carlinville, Illinois to take on the Beavers of Blackburn College in doubleheader action. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1 pm EST.
