Both runners swiped bases and Bryant provided a one-out sac fly for the visitors' first run. The Cardinals scored again in the fifth as Ycaza ripped a two-out RBI single through the left side. Canton cut the margin by one as Malinoski touched home on Douglas' RBI base knock. Clark's RBI single made the game 3-1 for the Cardinals and Welch's sac fly in the seventh brought the hosts to within a 3-2 margin.

Plattsburgh State then broke out for five runs on four hits in the eighth inning to jump out to an 8-2 lead. Mori had a two-run single, Bryant had an RBI single, freshman Justin Adams (Valhalla, N.Y./Westlake) picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice and the Cardinals also plated a run on a fielding error. Marion retired the final seven Canton batters he faced to end the game.
