Giants Power Past Pacers in Series Finale, 14-4

Scranton, Pa. – Keystone College completed a regular season sweep of its Colonial States Athletic Conference baseball series with Marywood University by pounding out 19 hits on its way to a 14-4 victory on Monday afternoon.  The Giants, who swept a doubleheader from the Pacers on Thursday, improve to 18-8 overall and 10-2 in conference play with its fifth consecutive win while Marywood falls to 7-15 overall and 4-8 in the CSAC.    
 
Keystone jumped out to a fast start on Monday afternoon, scoring four runs on three hits in the top of the first inning.  Billy Nelson (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) hit a two-run double to right center top open up the scoring before coming home on a Chris Panzarella (Hazle Township, Pa./Hazleton Area) base hit.  Panzarella gave Keystone a 4-0 advantage by coming home as Adam Kelly (Beach Lake, Pa./Honesdale) was caught stealing second.
 
Marywood got a run back in the bottom of the first on a solo home run and cut the Giants' lead to 4-2 in the home fourth on an RBI single.
 
Keystone broke the game open by plating four runs on five hits and one error in the visitor's sixth.  Bray Curreri (Eldred, N.Y./Eldred Central) hit an RBI double to right field and scored on a base hit to center from Ryan Callahan (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury).  Callahan would later score on a passed ball before a Sebastian De La Cruz (Port Jervis, N.Y./Port Jervis) double down the left field line brought home Anthony Ferrezza (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) as the Giants claimed an 8-2 advantage.
 
Tony Hunter II (Savannah, Ga./South Effingham) connected on an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning to push the visitor's advantage to seven runs before a two-run home run from the Pacers made it a 9-4 ballgame.
 
Keystone tacked on three runs on three hits and one error in the eighth inning to extend its lead to 12-4.  Brendan Long (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) stole third and came home on an error on the play before De La Cruz and Nelson scored on wild pitches to give the Giants the eight-run cushion.
 
The visitors added a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning to close out the scoring as Austin Chaszar (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional) hit an RBI single before coming home later in the inning when Eric Drzewiecki (Hellertown, Pa./Phillipsburg) reached on a fielder's choice.
 
Miguel Reyes (Bronx, N.Y./Monroe) improved to 4-1 on the season by allowing two runs – one earned – on three hits while striking out three batters in five innings on the mound.  Dylan Leahy (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) was charged with two runs against on two hits while fanning four batters in a pair of innings while Blake DeMeter (Ocean Township, N.J./Ocean Township) and Jack Simons (Great Falls, Va./The Bullis School) both tossed scoreless innings, with DeMeter striking out one batter and Simons picking up a pair of K's.
 
Ferrezza and Curreri had three hits apiece to lead the Giants while Long, De La Cruz, Panzarella, and Brady Barr (Bowie, Md./Bowie) had two hits apiece as Keystone held a 19-5 advantage in hits for the game.
 
Justin Haddix suffered the loss for Marywood after yielding four runs on three hits in just two-thirds of an inning before being lifted as the Pacers used five relievers to work through the remainder of the game.
 
James Goetz had a pair of hits while Vince Rebar drove in two runs for the Pacers in the loss.
 
Keystone will travel to Rutgers Camden on Tuesday afternoon for a non-conference game starting at 3:30 p.m. in New Jersey.
