The Oglethorpe baseball team fell behind early and had difficulty getting runs across Tuesday evening against Huntingdon in Montgomery, Alabama. They rallied for 3 runs in the ninth inning, but stranded the potential tying runs in a 5-3 defeat to the homestanding Hawks. The result dropped the Stormy Petrels to 17-18 on the season. 

Huntingdon jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but freshman left-hander Jackson Harrell settled down after that, delivering four consecutive scoreless innings from that point. He suffered the loss, though, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits over 6 innings to drop to 0-1 on the season. 

The Hawks added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings, extending their lead to 5-0. Oglethorpe began a comeback in the ninth inning, though. Junior left fielder Adrian Celata singled with one out, and senior right fielder Brandon Fish followed with another single. Sophomore first baseman Andrew Mink then came through with a 2-run triple and was able to score on a Huntingdon throwing error, making the score 5-3. Junior catcher Bobby Rezac followed with a double down the line, and junior second baseman Matt Motz reached on an infield single after that, putting the potential tying runs on base. However, the Hawks were able to get two more outs to secure the victory.

Celata went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored, while Fish went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Mink went 1-for-4 with a triple, 2 RBIs and a run scored.

"Their pitcher threw a great game," said Oglethorpe head coach Dan Giordano, "but we took too long to make our adjustments. I like the fight in our guys coming back late."

The Petrels will conclude their non-conference schedule with a trip to Demorest on Wednesday night. They'll take on Piedmont at 7 p.m. in a makeup date from a rained-out game in February. After that, they'll return home to take on Hendrix in the final SAA series of the season. They'll celebrate the 100th anniversary of Oglethorpe baseball on Saturday and Senior Day on Sunday.
