Marrs pitches three-hit shutout against York in CAC Tournament Opener

YORK, Pa. – The Wesley College baseball team opened the 2017 Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Championship Tournament with a 2-0 win on the road over the York (Pa.) Spartans on Tuesday.

Wesley was paced by a dominating pitching performance by Alex Marrs. Marrs pitched a three-hit shutout with nine strikeouts while only issuing two walks to earn his ninth win of the season. Marrs faced four over the minimum and had a no-hit bid until a Seth Brosius single with one out in the bottom of the seventh.

After a leadoff walk in the sixth inning by Cody DmiterchikTrey Mears cracked a two-run home run to left field for the only runs scored in the game.

Mears, Will BartonChris SeibertAaron Briggs and Michael Piccirillo each tallied hits in the win.

The Wolverines (18-13) will continue in the CAC Championship Tournament when they head down to Salisbury University on Thursday to face the fifth-seeded Marymount (Va.) Saints. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
